Chronic insomnia is a common problem affecting about 10% of adults with approximately 1 in 3 adults having some sleep problems. Insomnia is twice as frequent in women as in men. It is more likely to occur as people get older. Individuals with insomnia have problems falling asleep, waking up in the middle of the night, and/or waking up early in the morning.

It can also lead to mood, memory, alertness, concentration and fatigue problems. These problems can put jobs and relationships at risk as well as having an adverse impact on physical health and mental health.
